While Calgary hasn’t always been thought of as a burgeoning tech and innovation hotspot, that perception has changed rapidly in recent years. In fact, Startup Genome’s 2023 Global Startup Ecosystem Report placed Calgary among the top 60 emerging ecosystems (“startup communities at earlier stages of growth”) globally.
But, who is leading that innovation in Calgary and what exactly does it look like?
At Avenue’s 2024 Innovation Event, you’ll hear from innovators who are leading the way in education, technology, product development and more. Held at Central Library on June 13th, the event will feature a variety of panel discussions followed by a cocktail reception with a musical and visual performance by Kevin Stebner and the GreyScreen Project. Tickets are available online.
Here are three reasons why you should attend the 2024 event.
Hear six panel discussions on different innovation topics
The event will feature six panel discussions with more than a dozen panelists covering multiple avenues of innovation. The discussions will cover topics like simulation in education, creating high-tech products beyond software, products made from captured carbon, growing Calgary’s innovation ecosystem, technology and Indigeneity, and food technology companies.
Network with inspiring Calgarians who are passion about innovation
Attendees can ask questions and network with other Calgarians who are passionate about and actively involved in the city’s innovation scene. Among the panelists are Jeff LaFrenz from VizworX, Amadeus Meitner from EMM Labs Inc, Madison Savilow from Carbon Upcycling, Jaeson Cardiff from Clean 02 Carbon Capture Technologies, LeeAnne Ireland from USAY, AR game designer Su Spotted Bull, Lourdes Juan from Knead Technologies and more.
Grab a cocktail and see a GreyScreen performance by Kevin Stebner
Following the panels, there will be a cocktail reception with a performance by GreyScreen, a project led by multi-disciplinary writer, musician and artist Kevin Stebner. This multifaceted artistic endeavour centred around video games incorporates everything from music to visual installations and poetry. Using techniques such as chiptune, circuit-bending and writing new code, Stebner aims to broaden our understanding of how we perceive, interact and experiment with different mediums.
