6 New Coffee Shops in Calgary

Alenn Sandwich and Coffee

Alenn Sandwich and Coffee is a homey neighbourhood café that’s been serving up sandwiches and coffee in Varsity since October 2024. Alenn sources its coffee from Fratello Coffee Roasters and offers a selection of tea from Grounded Tea. Along with drip coffee and espresso-based drinks, there’s a sandwich menu with flavours like spicy Italian, Cajun chicken or Philly cheesesteak.

Bono Coffee Roasters

This local coffee roaster recently opened a third café location on Stephen Avenue, offering a bright space with the story of the Ethiopian coffee ceremony depicted on the walls. Sourcing coffee beans directly from Ethiopian farmers and roasting them in Calgary, Bono is a place for incredibly fresh coffee. Choose from a variety of snacks like sandwiches, paninis and other breakfast items while you’re here.

This new downtown café has quickly become a popular destination with its beautiful decor, tasty coffee and halal menu. Grab a drink and a pastry to enjoy in this sleek space decorated with marble tables, cozy forest green chairs and gold accents. Try drinks like the iced Turtle latté with chocolate, caramel and pecan or something savoury like the Sabaho bagel with turkey bacon and hot honey or a steak breakfast burrito.

Frida’s Coffee Home

Head downtown to Frida’s Coffee Home, a bright and colourful café with an eye-catching mural depicting San Miguel de Allende. Frida’s specializes in Arabica coffee ethically sourced directly from Mexican farms. The café also has freshly baked Mexican desserts and pastries like conchas, cheesecake with cajeta (goat milk caramel) or tres leches cake.

Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co.

This American café franchise recently expanded north with its first Canadian location setting up shop in Calgary. Located on 17th Avenue S.W. in Bankview, Qamaria features coffee beans sourced entirely from Yemen. It uses traditional methods to brew its Yemeni coffee and has a menu of fun signature drinks like the iced pistachio or Qamaria lattes. Pair your drink with a huge variety of sweet treats like honeycomb pastry, rose tres leche cake or the café’s take on the viral knafeh chocolate.

Velet Bike Ski Cafe

This Victoria Park coffee shop is a community-minded space with mountain vibes. Featuring items like skis and racing bibs as decor, Velet also has its own ski and bike repair and maintenance shop so you can bring your snowboard, bike or skis for a tune-up. Grab a cappuccino made with coffee sourced from Kelowna’s Anarchy Coffee Roasters or a non-alcoholic beer to enjoy with one of the savoury Turkish pastries like burek and other sweet pastries.
