Downtown workers heading into work in the morning or taking a quick lunch break should swing by Butcher and the Baker to check out its new menu. Try some of the new sandwich options that include a brioche scramble, a Nashville hot chicken sandwich, a brisket banh mi, an avocado BLT and a maple barbecue pulled chicken sandwich.
Until recently, Marda Loop Brewing Company was serving hand-cut fries with unique dipping sauces like garlic citrus aoili and spicy ketchup. And, while you can still get that, you can now pair your beer with one of the new items on its expanded menu as well. The new menu includes items like chicken wings, red bean and spinach croquettes, a Montreal smoked meat platter and even a chocolate chunk or ginger snap cookie with ice cream.

CF Chinook Centre opens its new dining hall
CF Chinook Centre’s food court has been in the middle of a $17 million renovation for the past several months and Calgarians can finally see the end result. Spanning 30,000-square-feet, the new dining hall features a much more modern look complete with both individual and sleek communal tables, seating for 835 people and some new eateries like Hula Poke and Nam Vietnamese Kitchen. The next time you’re at the mall, be sure to swing by for a bite and a look at the new space.

Greta opens in the Beltline
There’s no shortage of things to do at Greta, a new two-level arcade and bar that opened in the Beltline on November 9. Home to more than 50 arcade games, you can easily spend a whole night playing Ms. Pacman, skeeball, Bubble Hockey and more with your friends. And if all that gaming makes you hungry, you can nosh on globally-inspired street eats like ginger beef baos, japchae and Greek doughtnuts or split one of the shareable cocktails with your friends.

Happy Tea opens in Panorama Hills
Whether you’re looking for a new lunch spot or craving a late night bite, this new Taiwanese cafe has got you covered. Hoopla Donuts opens downtown
The team behind Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters have opened a new eatery that doubles as a doughnut shop called Hoopla Donuts and a new Phil & Sebastian cafe. Head downtown to Calgary Place to try doughnuts in flavours like passionfruit, crème brûlée, s’more, strawberry gin jam, double almond and more. You can also grab a coffee and all-day breakfast items like egg sandwiches and toast and avocado.

Monogram and local singer Ellen Doty have launched a charity campaign
For the next month, you can satisfy your music and coffee fix while supporting a good cause. Until December 31st, Calgarians can visit any of Monogram’s three coffee shop locations to buy “Already Home” coffee bags that will feature a free download of Ellen Doty and Ruben Young’s eponymous song. While that’s pretty cool in itself, the best part is that every coffee bag purchase means $5 will go towards Inn from the Cold.

Pow Pizza opens in Renfrew
Calgary’s newest pizzeria specializes in a type of pizza that’s new to the city: “Detroit spirited pizza” (DSP). Brought to us by the team behind Without Papers and the now-closed Sugo, Pow Pizza makes thick-crust, rectangular pizzas layered with toppings, cheese and tomato sauce (yes, generally in that order). The eatery only has two seats, so swing by to grab the Haute Renfrew (made with bacon, brick cheese, potato, sour cream and green onion) or the Italian Street Meat (made with Italian sausage, Cacciatore, Genoa salami, chorizo, brick cheese and tomato sauce) for takeout.
