Sandwiches are hot right now, and Calgary has another new spot to grab high-quality, inventive sandwiches.
Part of the restaurant group behind Our Daily Brett, Neighbour Coffee and Business & Pleasure, Super Variety feels like a culmination of everything the group offers. Super Variety serves incredible sandwiches on fresh-baked breads, as well as fun and simple highball cocktails that are perfect for a lunchtime pick-me-up and a great list of low-intervention wines.
The name nods to the convenience store vibes that owner Brett McDermott wanted to create, and so there’s also a small retail area where you can purchase a selection of European snacks, pickles and preserves, as well as rotating bottles of wine.
Super Variety sits in Neighbour Coffee’s former Inglewood space that’s in front of Business & Pleasure. McDermott envisioned a casual space where his chefs could experiment more beyond the usual breakfast items and where the team at Business & Pleasure could play around with more simplified and fun cocktails. McDermott renovated the new space himself (with the help of a friend), bringing new life with plenty of bright blues in the stuccoed walls and tiles. The result is a fun and inviting space that’s perfect for any time of day.
The creative sandwich menu includes options like the Buckin’ Brocc with charred broccolini, crispy halloumi, honey harissa and focaccia; the Sunday Sub, a classic meatball sub with three-cheese fonduta and pickled Calabrian chilies; or the famous Business & Pleasure Double, a classic but well executed smash burger.
If you fancy an alcoholic beverage, Super Variety has some unique highballs that embrace the restaurant’s casual yet elevated vibe. Choose from options like a Fernet Hunter BC and B.C. Raspberry Coke or Nodo Coffee Tequilana with tonic.
Super Variety is currently open until 7 p.m. After that, the restaurant acts as an expanded dining room for Business & Pleasure.
